Marci Ybarra’s research considers the role of public work supports and related social policies in the employment and well-being of low-income families, particularly single mothers. Ybarra’s research focuses on three policy areas that shape outcomes for many poor working families: the use of cash-welfare by poor, single, working mothers as a means-tested maternity leave during interruptions from low-wage work; the impact on economic and material well-being associated with the availability of Temporary Disability Insurance programs; and the role of child care subsidy policy design on parental decisions in care arrangements. Ybarra’s research is primarily concerned with the impact different and/or changing social policies have on related economic and material well-being among low-income families.
